Enterprise Mobile Management BYOD

Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) refers to the technology, processes, and people who focus on managing wireless networks, mobile device management and several other computing services in the business. Of late, an increasing number of workers are bringing their smartphones and tablets in the workplace as they prefer to work with their own devices.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is an increasingly popular IT policy encouraging and allowing employees to use their personal mobile devices for accessing enterprise network, data, and systems. Today, leading corporates and companies from all over the world encourage BYOD and try to make the most of this growing trend.

To study the significance and role played by Enterprise Mobile Management and BYOD in today’s organizations, Samsung recently commissioned Oxford Economics to carry out a detailed study focusing in particular on the differences between organizations who have adopted BYOD policies and those that have decided to provide mobile devices to their workforce.

For this research, a survey was carried out on 500 senior IT and business leaders accompanied by in-depth interviews. This research quantifies the overall investment in mobile-enablement for the enterprise, emphasizing on areas for cost-efficiency and the strategies that are capable of delivering the greatest return on investment.

Key Findings of the Research

  • Almost 80% of the survey’s respondents feel that their employees will perform well only with their mobile phones and a few others say that mobile devices are a vital part of their business workflows.
  • A number of companies adopted a BYOD approach because of the perceived cost savings. These savings can be indeed become vital when employees pay for their own mobile service plans, but the survey here highlighted that increasingly enterprises are providing employees a substantial stipend to compensate for personal mobile usage. However, this stipend wipes out the savings achieved. Moreover, the mobile management costs incurred when managing BYOD workforces are only marginally lower than for a fleet of corporate-issued devices, according to the Oxford Economics analysis.
  • Mobile phones are provided to all employees by only 17% of enterprises, while 31% provide to none and instead depend wholly on BYOD. Certain employee groups receive corporate-issued phones based on seniority or job function. The study also reveals that a few businesses pay for service plans and devices, some share costs with employees and others just let their employees pay the entire bill.
  • The survey analyzed a number of indicators of maturity, including the deployment of business applications, satisfaction with mobile devices as work tools, and benefits seen in terms of workforce collaboration and mobile security. In almost every key measure, enterprises that provide devices to at least 20% of employees scored the highest.

To conclude, the research with Oxford Economics highlights the significance of having a purposeful and coordinated mobile strategy. This mostly refers to the concept of providing corporate-issued devices to those who will really need them and giving others the freedom to use their own smartphones for work.
